my male tom eats loads of normal cat food but then ten mins later is beggin for more, used to be big cat now thin and light, in the bins scaving for scraps, always meowing for anything, had all the usual blood test but nothing he is other wise normal age 13
At age 13, he is a "senior citizen". Senior cats are prone to more chronic conditions like hyperthyroid, diabetes and renal failure… all of which can cause an increased appetite and weight loss. I recommend getting him to the vet for a full senior blood and urine workup. I suspect that he’s either got one of the three conditions noted, or intestinal parasites are always a possibility. I don’t think this is anything that will resolve itself, and it’s best to have him diagnosed sooner than later.
I have recently got a female gerbil to keep my male gerbil company. They are both still under 12 weeks old and get on quite well apart from the very occaisonal scrap.
I checked on them the other night and the female was lying on her back and the male seemed to be licking her all over – i dont think that he was biting her as she seemed farely content and wasn’t strugling to get away – is this normal?
Thanks to those who have answered my question seriously – those of you who think you’re smart arses, don’t bother. If you read the question properly, you will see that i’m not asking for your opinions so i’ll decide whether i’m an idiot or not thanks.
Yes it is normal it’s what gerbils do to each other to clean themselves. But you should have gotten 2 males or 2 females instead because soon you’re house will be full of baby gerbils (and it won’t stop until you separate the males from the females)…
I have him for more than 3 months and he was very cheerful until i brought one female, she always keeps nipping him and attacking him,she even scrapped his scales off! though he is not much injured he sits very quietly in the tank and does not move, heis not the same cheerful fish i had,i am doubting hat the female i purchased is a male, may be the fisher fellow cheated me just to gain money,or not, then why is she so aggressive towards him, they don’t get along at all.i have decided to keep them separate now,i thought he will be happy if he gets a female,i don’t want him to die, will he become allright, can i do anything 4 him? what can i do to make them get along?please help me save my kisser
These fish are extremely aggressive. The kissing is actually aggression not affection. It’s likely you have two males. Most pets stores do not sell female gouramis of any kind because only the males have color. In the case of kissing gouramis, only the males kiss, which is aggression. The kissing is the hook the stores uses to get people to buy these fish.
Unsuspecting people take these fish home only to watch them kill each other in their tanks. It’s no different than rooster fighting.
A cute different name for a weird little creature made out of recycled scraps..
He’s orange (a male obviously) with long stripey legs and big button eyes.
Wally
This can be over anything at all, Bobby only has to move and Barney starts to growl and then they start scrapping.day It happens several times a day. i have tried time out, telling him off ect but nothing works, can anyone help? thanks
It would help if both were neutered, although not always.
It is up to you as Alpha to stop this. Tie into Barney each & every time you see this behavior. Depending on the how tough the dog is & how he responds to corrections is what you will use a judge as to how harsh your corrections are.
The correction I use for biting is a firm bop on the soft tissue just behind the nose with two fingers held tightly together. If he is a strong temperamented dog you will need a harder bop. You will stand over him (showing your dominance over him), force his head to the ground (another way of showing dominance), yell in a deep voice (simulating the snarl & growl of a strong temperamented dog).
Once you have corrected him just back off a little, still towing over him. Make the correction & let it go back to normal. You will need to be as consistant as you possibly can. Never let a snarl or growl go uncorrected.
In training high or strong temperamented dogs (Police dogs, personal protection dogs or modifing a strong temperament) I have had to use my fist on the dogs noses cause a tap was not enough to earn my position as ALPHA. You have to make it clear that you mean business.
If you have questions please let me know.
I have two male guinea pigs and they had a bad fight today. This isn’t normal. They scrap sometimes but nothing serious. Today I heard them scrapping so I went to stop them and one of them had a big nasty gash on his nose. His nostril was ripped and it’s really gross. I may go to the vet tomorrow, but what can I do for now? I put polysporin on it but it’s all bloody and gross. I tried to clean it but he won’t let me touch him. Should I leave it or is there a way to clean it a bit?
I have already told you to get on the phone and find a vet that is open, i am sorry if it would be a imposition for you to drive a short distance to get your guinea pig to a vet but i have driven as much as 100 miles in the middle of the night with a sick pig and did not complain about it.When we make the discussion to cage them for out delight it is our responsibility to care for them responsibly.
Get off the computer, on the phone and find an EXOTIC vet that is open and take care of your guinea pig.
i have 2 4 month old male rats. i bought them some treats the other day, i gave them one and they started scrapping over it. i dont want to give them one each, as the treat is quite big
i am afraid you are going to have to either give them one each or break the big one in half, if you do not give equally you are going to get fights, i have two male animals in the one cage and i have two food bowls at each end of the cage so they can go to one each it does stop all the fights, it won’t hurt giving them one each, but two males will fight if things are not shared equally, hope this works for you best of luck.
I have a car that has been off thge road for three years. however being male i have forgotten to inform dvla.. woops…
I now want to scrap it.
Is there a method of scrapping the vehicle without incurring all that road fund licence? I have rung dvla up and they inform me that i would have to pay the full road fund licence up to the time its scrappped as if it were on the road.. i dont want to do that.
many thaks in advance
I would forget about paying up to date go along to your local Post Office and pick up a SORN certificate and fill it in send it off, scrap the vehicle, you could get £50 for it from some scrapie’s. If you just dump the vehicle without filling in a SORN the DVLA will still think it is on the road and will continue to bill you when you fail to TAX your vehicle. Hopefully by just filling out the SORN will be enough and if in the unlikely event they bill you for the last 3 years play ignorant and persist that you did not know you had to put a SORN on it and state that you did not receive a reminder of any sort through the mail for the last 3 years.
Good Luck

ABSTRACT
Presented by Michael Goard, PhD, and Emily Jacobs, PhD.
The majority of the human brain is comprised of a single structure, the neocortex, responsible for a range of cognitive functions, from sensory perception to abstract thought. However, despite this diversity of functions, the neocortex has a simple architecture it is comprised of numerous repeated motifs of a single stereotyped neural circuit. This talk will serve as an introduction to the structure and function of the neocortical circuit, particularly focusing on how it processes sensory input in order to generate cohesive perception of the external world. This will be followed by a description of recent experiments demonstrating how the neocortex can process sensory input in different ways depending on the behavioral state of the animal. Finally, there will be a discussion of how understanding neocortical function will lead to innovations in medicine, computing, and artificial intelligence.
The study of neuroscience is devoted to understanding how the brain functions uniformly across members of a species, but a critical question centers on how cognitive processes differ between members of a species, or in an individual under varying environmental conditions. In short, why do some people excel where others falter? This talk introduces two factors that contribute to individual differences in cognition: genes and hormones. This concept is examined through recent experiments demonstrating that specific cognitive processes vary throughout a womans menstrual cycle: certain women benefit from natural increases in estrogen, while others are impaired. Importantly, the impairing or enhancing effects of estrogen is intimately tied to the individuals background genetic milieu. The relevance of this work to womens health will be discussed. The estrogen-cognition literature (including population health studies on hormone replacement therapy) is famously inconsistent. We can now ask, at the level of the brain, why?

i have three little ones, theyre in a big and healthy tank and are well fed. one likes to roam about on his own but the other two are always scrapping. are they playing or is it an alpha male thing?
yes, when they get to sexual maturity they can be a bit snappy/chasy to others as they want to clear their own space for egg laying(dont want intruders)Natural progression@certain times.Nothing to worry about(unless one gets hurt badly)they have enough space to flee,so yes it’s alpha male play(get a girl)(lest they are male&female/then your in real luck(begin preparations)I think you will have to watch a bit more&see what you can make out.
IMPORTANT:water imbalance will cause them to act irratic(sensitive)
